Yerevan 2800th Anniversary Park (Armenian: Երևանի 2800-ամյակին նվիրված այգի), is a public park dedicated to the 2800th anniversary of Yerevan, located at the city's central Kentron District. The 250-metre (820 ft) long and 50-metre (160 ft) wide rectangular park is bordered by the streets of Khorenatsi, Grigor Lusavorich, Beirut and Italy, and has an area of 1.25 hectares (3.1 acres).[1][2]

History

A park was already opened at the same location during the 1980s as an extension of the nearby English Park. However, it was in a poor condition in the 2010s. The Vardanian Family Charity Foundation committed itself to upgrade and restore the park to be ready in 2018, on the occasion of the 2800th anniversary of the Yerevan city foundation. The foundation has taken responsibility for taking care of the park for 99 years.[3] However, due to some technical reasons, the inauguration of the parks was delayed to 2019.[4]

The official inauguration of the park took place on May 10, 2019 with the presence of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and the Mayor of Yerevan Hayk Marutyan.[5]

250 trees of 70 unique species were planted in the park. 2,800 fountains were installed in the park, dedicated to the 2800th anniversary of the city. The ground is decorated with seven types of granite stones with a shape of traditional Armenian carpet, covering an area of 5,420 square metres (58,300 sq ft).[1] Five bronze statues have been installed at the four corners of the fountain complex. The park is also decorated with Urartu style bull and lion bronze statues. At the southern end of the park is a small square depicting the map of Yerevan surrounded with 45 flooding fountains.[6]
