1973–74 Real Madrid CF season

During summer, Spanish Football Federation lifted the ban on foreign players transfers after 11 campaigns,[1] so, the club was able to buy Argentine forward Oscar Más,[2] German midfielder Günter Netzer,[3] teenage defender José Antonio Camacho and youngstar Vicente del Bosque. The club finished in a mere eight place in League Table sixteen points behind Champion CF Barcelona and his new arrival Dutch playmaker Johan Cruijff.[4] During the campaign Miguel Muñoz head coach since 1960 was fired on 14 January 1974 after a bad streak of results, being replaced by Luis Molowny.[5]

Meanwhile, now in June the team won the 1974 Copa del Generalisimo Final 4–0 against League Champion CF Barcelona[6] without Johan Cruijff on the field.[7]

Shockingly, in the UEFA Cup the squad bowed out early at the hands of Ipswich Town after losing the first leg of the series 0–1 and a achieving only a miserable draw 1–1 in Madrid.[8]
