Plot
After protecting Last Order at the cost of much of his power, Accelerator now finds himself dragged into a new conflict in the form of a sinister organization called Disciplinary Action which plots to use Last Order for a dangerous mission. Now that they have set their plan into motion and are in pursuit of the young girl, it is up to the world's most powerful esper and his newfound companion, Esther Rosenthal, to protect Last Order and defend Academy City in the process.

Manga
The manga is written by Kazuma Kamachi and illustrated by Arata Yamaji, with character designs by Yamaji and A Certain Magical Index light novel illustrator Kiyotaka Haimura.[2] The series launched in the February 2014 issue of ASCII Media Works' shōnen manga magazine Dengeki Daioh on December 27, 2013,[2] and it concluded with the September 2020 issue sold on July 27, 2020.[3] On March 25, 2015, Seven Seas Entertainment announced that they had licensed the manga for publication in North America.[4]
Teto Tachitsu serialized a four-panel comedy spin-off manga titled A Certain Idol Accelerator-sama (とある偶像の一方通行さま, To Aru Idol no Accelerator-sama) in Dengeki Daioh from October 27, 2015 to November 27, 2018.[5][6]

Anime
During an event on October 1, 2017, A Certain Magical Index editor Kazuma Miki teased that "A Certain Project 2018", consisting of the third season of the Index anime, was "not just Index."[35] On October 7, 2018, during the "Dengeki Bunko 25th Anniversary Fall Dengeki Festival", it was announced that A Certain Scientific Accelerator would be adapted into an anime television series.[36] The series is animated by J.C.Staff and directed by Nobuharu Kamanaka, with Kenji Sugihara handling series composition, and Yohei Yaegashi designing the characters. Maiko Iuchi is composing the music. Twelve episodes were broadcast from July 12 to September 27, 2019 on AT-X, Tokyo MX, MBS, and BS11.[37][38][39] The opening theme is "Shadow is the Light" by The Sixth Lie and the ending theme is "Parole" by Sajou no Hana.[40] Funimation has licensed the anime outside Asia for a simuldub.[41] Muse Communication simulcasted the series on its Muse Asia YouTube channel in Southeast Asia.[42]
