These centers include: The Centre for Academic Research (CAR) and Centre for Applied Research (CAR) intends to provide professional development to faculty members, motivate and engage research scholars towards excellence in their respective disciplines and undertake commissioned research from national and international agencies to provide a platform for accomplished stalwarts and doctoral students to share their ideas, innovations and findings with the global fraternity, and the Centre for Social Impact and Research (CSIR) focus on encouraging and empowering communities to attain sustainable living through indigenous practices backed by modern technologies as needed. This will encompass areas of education, health, water and energy conservation. Moreover, there are Centers of Excellence with three special initiatives namely, the Alliance Centre for Leadership and Public Policy (ACLPP), is an initiative launched by the University to create and support an environment of rigorous, systematic and scientific research; implement cutting-edge professional development programs; develop leadership competencies; improve leadership practice and enhance community robustness through law, justice and human rights, Alliance Centre for Media Studies and Research (ACMSR), is an initiative launched by Alliance University to impart quality education and offer certificate programs in the area of media production and journalism. The genesis of the Centre is driven by the fact that media in contemporary society has become the ubiquitous phenomenon that not only provides entertainment and information but also touches every facet of our daily life through social media and other user interfaces of varied types, and Alliance Centre for Living Consciousness (ACLC) is an interdisciplinary initiative by Alliance University to formulate a concrete view of consciousness that takes into account the subjective view offered by ancient Indian approaches as well as the objective view offered by modern scientific techniques.[39] [40]

Alumni

Alliance University has a strong alumni network with its alumni occupying many prestigious positions in institutions and organizations across the world. Alliance Alumni Association (AAA) manages interactions with the alumni network and keeps them engaged with the university. Alumni Reunion, a yearly event conducted across multiple cities in the world serves as a rendezvous. Some of the prominent alumni include entrepreneur and philanthropist Rajashree Birla and Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi.[41] [42]

Leadership disputes

As early as 2014 disputes within the Angur family began interrupting the management of the university; in 2015 Madhukar G. Angur removed his brother, sister, and other family members from the board and filed police charges that they had stolen money and mismanaged the university.[43]

In February 2016 Madhukar G. Angur was arrested on rape charges, then released, and further rape allegations were made again in the next month.[44][45]

Around April 2016 Madhukar G. Angur was fired as chancellor and replaced by his brother, Sudhir G. Angur, and by June the power struggle within the family for control led to the university being closed for two weeks and semester-end exams were indefinitely postponed.[46] The university went on holidays two more times in 2016;[20] in September Madhukar Angur forcibly took back the chancellorship, and the next month his brother forcibly took it back.[47]

Government intervention

In November 2016 a government-appointed investigation by M.I. Savadatti reported that it found that between 2010 and 2016 Madhukar G. Angur had been "deeply involved in committing huge financial irregularities causing wrongful loss to Alliance University a total amount of INR 107 Crore"[48][49] (around US$14 million).

Students and their families began to request refunds, and appealed to the government of Karnataka to intervene.[50] The government had no legal right to intervene in a private university, and in November worked to change the law so that it could.[51] In December 2017 the government appointed an administrator with unspecified tenure and said that the Angurs could no longer be involved in managing the operations of the university.[52]

As of March 2018 litigation between family members over control of the university was pending in the High Court.[53]
