Ankeng light rail

The Ankeng Light Rail (Chinese: 安坑輕軌; pinyin: Ānkēng Qīngguǐ) (code K) is a light rail transit (LRT) system under construction in Xindian District, New Taipei City, Taiwan.[2][3] The route will run from Shuangcheng, joining terminating at Shisizhang where it is to link with the planned Circular line. The line is known in the New Taipei Metro system as the Khaki line, or line K.[4] The line is expected to open in 2021, although some construction work isn't expected to finish until the end of 2022. [5][6][7][8] The rolling stock for the line will be produced in Taiwan.[9]

The trains for the Ankeng line will be in the shape of a partially battery powered tram service, most likely the same type of trams used for the Danhai light rail. Construction started around April 2016 and is well away on the road level part between station K01 and K05, with the first tracks having been laid in November 2018. A depot will also be located just past station K01, near Antai Road. A large part of the depot appears to be inside a mountain, with three large tunnels going through the mountain and a train yard on the other side of the mountain. The train yard construction site is clearly visible on Google Maps. As of December 2020 the line was 74.94% complete and several of the ground level stations were close to completion in September of 2020. The elevated section is still only partially done at this time and the bridge over the Xindian river should be complete by the end of the year.
