History

The community takes its name from nearby Boomer Branch creek.[5]

On February 16, 2015 the village, along with neighboring Adena, was evacuated following the derailment of a train consisting of two locomotives and 109 rail cars. The train, carrying crude oil quickly set ablaze into a fireball, some of the oil flowing into the Kanawha River and setting it alight for half a mile.[6]
