History

Braun's Express has been in the trucking business since the early 1930s. The original owner was Joe Braun of Medway, Massachusetts who started his business with only one truck. The business grew modestly throughout the 20th century and was eventually purchased and incorporated in 1967 by Roy Nutting. The company's growth accelerated when it developed delivery of airfreight outside the Boston-Route 128 area. In 1978 Braun's became one of the first trucking companies in the area to use computers in the office. The company now employs nearly 300 people and services much of the Eastern United States from its eight terminal locations.

In 2012, Braun's acquired Surfaces Transport, Inc. and expanded its service area to include the Midwest, opening new terminals in Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

In 2015, a Braun's Express vehicle being operated in Brooklyn, New York, struck and killed a pedestrian.[1]

Environmental stewardship

Braun's Express has been involved in the trucking industry's green movement since 2004, when it joined the Environmental Protection Agency's SmartWay Transport Partnership.[2] The company has been an early adopter of fuel-saving strategies, including single-wide tires, automatic tire-inflation systems, and battery-powered APUs. In 2009, Braun's was named a "Massachusetts Energy Leader"[3] and was featured in Mack Trucks' Bulldog Magazine, which cites Braun's as "helping to transform the industry."[4]

Braun's was featured in the September 2009 issue of Fleet Equipment, which also references the company's efforts to reduce fuel consumption.[5]

In 2010, Braun's was awarded an Environmental Merit Award by the US EPA.[6]
