Couples performed a routine to an unlearned dance, as well as a routine coached and styled by one of the four judges. To avoid favoritism, the judges did not score the couple they coached, so the second round dances received a total score out of 30 instead of the usual 40 points.[26][27]
Additionally, during the show, Bergeron revealed that, for the first time in the show's history, the semifinalists had all had at least one week at the top of the combined leaderboard (judges' scores + audience voting).[28]

Notes
- Officially, Sasha Farber was Nastia Liukin's partner in weeks 7 and 8, as Derek Hough had suffered an injury in rehearsals for the show's 10th anniversary special. Nevertheless, Hough did choreograph the routines and performed a limited role in Liukin's performances. During week 9, Sasha danced with Nastia during her quickstep routine, but Derek resumed his role as her partner for her Viennese Waltz.
- The score was tied; as head judge, Len Goodman's vote served as the tiebreaker.
