Eloise Vitelli

Eloise A. Vitelli (born 1949) is an American women's business advocate and politician from Maine.[1] Vitelli served as a Democratic State Senator from Maine's 19th District, representing Sagadahoc County and the adjacent town of Dresden, Maine in Lincoln County, including the population centers of Bath and Topsham as well as her residence in Arrowsic. Vitelli was elected to the Maine Senate on August 27, 2013 in a special election to replace fellow Democrat Seth Goodall. She won 50.47% of the vote, topping Republican former State Senator Paula Benoit and Green Independent nominee and social worker Daniel Stromgren.[2][3]

In 2014, Eloise Vitelli was defeated by former Topsham Selectwoman and retired teacher Linda Baker.[4] She lost by 1,036 votes[5] despite having more money spent on her behalf by outside groups.[6]

Vitelli was inducted into the Maine Women's Hall of Fame in 1995.[7]

Vitelli served as the director of program and policy development for Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community (now New Ventures Maine) and worked at the center for 38 years.[8]

Vitelli was elected again as Democratic State Senator in Maine's 23rd District in November 2016. [9][10] Re-elected in 2018 and 2020, she was chosen to be the Assistant Majority Leader in December 2020.[11]
