The tower overlooks all main roads as well as the Capital Park while being surrounded with the rest of the towers of the business district since it falls in the middle of all. The investments of this project are estimated to be 3 billion dollars.[3]

"The Iconic Tower will be a great landmark in the capital city and a symbol for modern Egypt” - Prime Minister of Egypt

The project will include an integrated complex of all services, which will be built on an area of approximately 240,000 metres (790,000 ft), and the total area of the tower exceeds about 7,100,000 meters (4,400 mi), as it aims to represent a tourist and investment attraction in the center of Egypt's Administrative Capital.[4]

In recent years there have been a number of contenders for the title of Africa’s tallest tower, including The Leonardo in Sandton (227 metres (745 ft), and the Bank of Africa Tower in Rabat, Morocco (250 metres (820 ft). However, none under construction surpasses the Iconic Tower, which also beats the currently tallest planned Pinnacle Towers scheme (300 metres (980 ft) in Nairobi, Kenya. Also built by the same developer of the Iconic Tower.

Construction

Construction of the Iconic Tower officially went underway in May 2018. Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly visited the construction site to attend a ceremony that marked the start of concrete pouring operations on the foundations in 2019.[5] Set to be Africa’s tallest skyscraper, the Iconic Tower is going up at a rate of one floor every six days or fewer with five thousand workers toiling on the project, said CSCEC’s general manager in Egypt, Chang Weicai.

The tower project's architect of record is Dar al-Handasah Shair & Partners, the plan for the new Cairo development project - being developed by the Egyptian Ministry of Housing, represented by the New Urban Communities Authority in cooperation with the CSCES.[6] - shows the entire site could eventually hold a total of 20 skyscrapers, including the Iconic Tower.

It was planned and inspired by the shape of a pharaonic obelisk with glass exterior. the tower is expected to be unveiled in its final form on January 13, 2022. Upon completion, it will be 80 stories tall, overtaking The Leonardo in South Africa (tallest building in Africa from 2019-2020) and surpassing Johannesburg’s Carlton Center, which has been Africa’s tallest building from 1973-2019.[7]

Although, construction of the Iconic Tower is not finished yet, 49 floors out of 80 (245 metres (804 ft) have already been built as of December 2020. Making it officially the tallest man-made structure in Egypt and Africa. Project manager Ahmed al-Banna stated that the total construction period for the completion of the Iconic Tower 45 months.
