History

The station was opened on 1 December 1932 as the terminus of the Yosan line which had been extended westwards from Iyoshi. It became a through-station on 9 June 1935 when the line (renamed the Yosan Mainline on 1 August 1932) was further extended to Shimonada. At that time the station was operated by Japanese Government Railways (JGR), later becoming Japanese National Railways (JNR). With the privatization of JNR on 1 April 1987, control of the station passed to JR Shikoku.[6][7]
