JioCinema

JioCinema is an Indian subscription video on-demand and over-the-top streaming service now owned by Jio Platforms, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited. Launched on 5 September 2016, JioCinema's content library includes films, TV Show & Web series, music video, and documentaries. Jio defines JioCinema as an on demand video library with movies, TV Shows, music videos, Jio shorts, documentaries and trailers . In plain words, JioCinema is a video streaming service offered by Jio where in you can watch movies, TV shows, Jio exclusives, documentaries and trailers. The app supports both smartphone and web platform.

History

JioCinema was launched on 5 September along with the public launch of Jio in 2016. JioCinema is one of the apps provided exclusively for Jio users along with other apps (JioTV, JioSaavn, JioNews, JioMart , JioMeet, JioChat & JioTalks), owned by Jio Platforms. JioCinema was earlier available only on android play store[1] and iOS app store,[2] however, also launched a web version[3][4] a year after the official launch and after that on JioPhone[5] and TV.

Content Partners

JioCinema has aggregated content from partners like ALTBalaji, Eros Now, Paramount Pictures, Zee Entertainment, Viacom 18, Shemaroo Entertainment, Balaji Motion Pictures, Sun Nxt, Sony and others.

In December 2018, JioCinema partnered with Disney India[6][7][8] to offer Disney content in the JioCinema app. Disney has withdrawn from this deal after the introduction of Disney+ Hotstar in India. In December 2019, with Sun TV Network to host over 4,000 films.[9] available on the Sun Nxt platform[10][11][12][13] across 4 South Indian languages viz: Tamil, Telugu, Kannada & Malayalam.

In May 2020, JioCinema partnered with Hoichoi[14] to provide Bengali content in Hindi dubbed version.

OEM Partners

In August 2019, Xiaomi,[15][16] TCL[17][18] and in November 2019, Intex announced[19] JioCinema app integration for their smart TVs.

As per Statista Q2 2020 report, JioCinema has 7% market share among many competitors like Netflix & Prime Video with 20% each market share, Disney+Hotstar has 17% market share, Zee5 with 9%, Alt Balaji & Sony Liv with 4% market share each, and other streaming(OTT) platforms have 19% market share.
