Kombai is a panchayat town in Theni District in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, located in the beautiful foot hills of Western Ghats, blessed by mother nature with all pancha boota - Land, Water, Fire, Air and Ether. Kombai is famous as Cinema director/actor Rajkaboor's birthplace, Director/story writer Lenin Bharathi, director of the film Merku Thodarchi Malai and Ranjith Jeyakody, director of film Puriyatha Puthir Ramachandran Durairaj Famous Actor of the Film Naan Mahaan Alla, Sathuranga Vettai and Aramm was born and brought up here. 125 years old Sri Kannika Parameshwari Schools are located in Kombai where the famous music director Ilaiyaraaja studied.
Geography
Kombai is located at 9.83°N 77.32°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 399 metres (1309 feet). North Side- Pannaipuram Town Panchayat, East Side-Salamalai and Pallavarayan patti Village, West Side-Kerala State, South Side-Uthamapalayam Town Panchayat.
Demographics
As of 2001 India census,[2] Kombai had a population of 12,820. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Kombai has an average literacy rate of 64%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 72%, and female literacy is 57%. In Kombai, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Kombai is surrounded by mountains. It has a cold weather almost throughout the year. Two famous buildings called Manikkoondu Mahal and Rajamahal are situated in this city.

Kombai is famous for Sri Renganathar Temple, located on the foothills of western ghats and Festival celebrated during five Saturday Tamil month Purataasi, famous for its car festival. Kombai Zamindar Late. Mr.A.Appaji Rajkumar and Ilaya Zamindar Late. Mr.S.Logandurai used to coordinate with all Community in the village to organize this Car festival.
The village is known for its Two famous buildings called Manikkoondu Mahal and Rajamahal are situated in this city.
Agriculture and Farming
Most people living here cherish and focus on Agriculture and Farming as their primary business. The Farmers primarily focus on growing Coconuts and Tamarind, making it one of the largest producers of these items in the region. The farmers grow also seasonal vegetables such as beans, ground nuts, snake guard, etc. Other plantations include Banana, Guava, Mango, etc.
