Leading University
Leading University (Bengali: লিডিং ইউনিভার্সিটি) or LU is a private university of Bangladesh. It was established in 2001 under the Private University Act 1992.[2] The campus of LU is located in Ragib Nagar, Kamal Bazar, South Surma, Sylhet.

Department of Civil Engineering
The Department of Civil Engineering is the first department in this field in Sylhet among all private universities.[4] It was established in 2008. The department offers four year undergraduate program leading to B.Sc. in Civil Engineering degree. At present the department has six batches and 200 students. The Department offers 60 undergraduate courses to the respective students. There are 9 full-time faculty members dedicated in teaching the students of this department as well as the students of other departments of LU. The department also employ teachers from other universities, colleges and firms. Department offices, lecture halls and most of the labs are housed in the School of Engineering floor of the campus. The department offers a four-year undergraduate program leading to B.Sc. in civil engineering degree. The undergraduate curriculum at this department is based on Course System. The total academic calendar is segmented into four years and eight semesters, where two semesters make a year.
The department is planning to develop testing and consultancy services. The services will be provided by Research Testing and Consultancy Group (RTCG), Sylhet. These consultancies will be run under four divisional supervision. They are: Environmental Engineering, Structural Engineering, Geo-technical Engineering, and Transportation Engineering. A number of testing of different construction materials will be carried out here under the above divisional supervision.
Material that will be tested here are: Aggregate, Bricks, Bitumen, Cement, Cement Concrete, Gauges, R.C.C Pipes, Steel, Soil, Geo-textile, Rubber/Plastic/PVC materials, Water ( Drinking water, Agriculture use, Pollution Study, Miscellaneous parameters), Environment Quality of soil.
Department of Architecture
The department of architecture was started in 2007. It is the first architecture school in Sylhet among private universities.
Department of Islamic Studies
The department of Islamic Studies of Leading University was started in 2014. The department provides traditional and contemporary knowledge on subjects of Islam such as study of Quran, hadith, fiqha, Islamic history, Islamic philosophy, Islamic economics, Islamic finance, Islamic banking, social welfare in Islam, political views of Islam, comparative religions, and so on.

Calendar
The university has three semesters a year: spring (starts in January), summer (starts in April), and fall (starts in October). The duration of each semester is 13 weeks. But the academic calendar for the architecture, civil Engineering, Tourism and Hospitality Management department consists of two semesters each year.
Extracurricular activities
LU provides activities designed by its own particular clubs, such as the Leading University Computer Club, IEEE Leading University Student Branch, Debating Club, Leading University Model United Nations Association, Sports Club, Cultural Activities Club, Social Services Club, Electronics Club, Creative Club, Leading University Photographic Society and Bangladesh National Cadet Corps.
