List of songs recorded by Ariana Grande

American singer Ariana Grande's music career began in 2008 when she contributed vocals to the cast recording of the musical 13. She then went to contribute to the soundtrack albums of the Nickelodeon TV sitcom Victorious, in which she also starred from 2010 to 2013.[1] Three soundtrack albums were released between 2011 and 2012.[2][3][4] In 2011 Grande also began to work as an independent artist outside of the show. She then released "Put Your Hearts Up", a bubblegum pop song, during the same year. Grande later called it "inauthentic and fake" and described it as "the worst moment of my life"; she went as far as hiding the song's music video on her Vevo account.[5] After expressing disappointment with the song, Republic Records gave Grande more creative control over the production of her debut album.[5]

Yours Truly was released in September 2013.[6] It was preceded by the release of her debut single, a R&B song called "The Way" featuring Mac Miller.[7] The song was written by Miller, Harmony Samuels, Amber Streeter, Al Sherrod Lambert, Brenda Russell and American recording artist Jordin Sparks.[8] Follow-up singles included the 1990s-R&B-influenced "Baby I",[9][10] and "Right There" featuring Big Sean, which Grande stated served as a sequel to "The Way".[11] Grande worked with Babyface on the album's opener "Honeymoon Avenue" and recorded a duet with Nathan Sykes called "Almost Is Never Enough".[8] Christmas Kisses, Grande's first EP, was released in December 2013.[12] The EP, which only included four songs, was primarily Christmas music, and featured collaboration with Elizabeth Gillies.

Grande's second studio album, My Everything, was released in August 2014.[13] The lead single, "Problem" featured Iggy Azalea and Big Sean (uncredited) and incorporated elements of jazz and funk. "Break Free" is an EDM song produced by Zedd; it is a genre which Grande revealed she never thought she would venture into, but the experience caused her to only want to record dance songs.[14] "Break Your Heart Right Back", featuring Childish Gambino, utilized two samples: "Mo Money Mo Problems" by The Notorious B.I.G. and "I'm Coming Out" by Diana Ross.[8] Other contributing songwriters and producers on My Everything included Ryan Tedder and David Guetta, who composed "One Last Time", and Harry Styles former member of British boyband One Direction, who co-wrote "Just a Little Bit of Your Heart".[8] In November 2014, Grande was featured on Major Lazer's song "All My Love", which was included on the soundtrack to the film The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 (2014).[15] The same month, Grande released a Christmas song titled "Santa Tell Me".[16]

Grande's third studio album Dangerous Woman, was released in May 2016. Work for the album, originally titled Moonlight, began and continued throughout 2015. "Focus", released in October 2015, was intended to be the album's lead single, however the "stabbing big-band brass" track was later scrapped from its track list.[17][18] The song would later serve as a bonus track on the Japanese deluxe release of the album.[19][20] Grande replaced it with the title track, which incorporated an arena rock chorus and a guitar solo during its bridge, followed by "Into You" and "Side to Side", featuring Nicki Minaj, a dancehall and reggae-pop song. Promotional singles included "Be Alright" and "Let Me Love You" featuring Lil Wayne.[21][22] The album also featured collaborations with Macy Gray and Future, who was featured on the fourth and final single "Everyday", released in January 2017. The album debuted in the top ten positions in the majority of the countries where it charted.

Grande's fourth studio album, Sweetener, was released in August 2018 to universal acclaim. The lead single, "No Tears Left to Cry", which incorporated a UK garage beat, was released in April 2018 and followed by "God Is a Woman", a dominantly mid-tempo pop song with trap elements, in July 2018. Grande also teamed up again with Nicki Minaj on "The Light Is Coming", which served as the album's sole promotional single in June 2018. "Breathin", a dance-pop song containing influences of synth-pop was released as the third single in September 2018. Sonically, Sweetener explores different experimental themes, incorporating mostly pop, R&B, and trap songs along with elements of house, funk, neo soul and hip-hop. Tropical house, EDM, synthpop and minimalist urban influences are also seen on its beats and productions.[23] Missy Elliott and Pharrell Williams served as collaborators on the album on songs such as "Borderline", a 90's contemporary R&B track, and "Blazed", a high tempo song with a funk-influenced beat. Commercially, the album entered the top ten in multiple nations worldwide while breaking several of Grande's personal records.

Grande's fifth studio album, Thank U, Next, was released in February 2019. It peaked at #1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart in the United States for 2 weeks. In the US, the album spawned the number 1 hits "Thank U, Next" and "7 Rings" and the number 2 hit "Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored". With this, Grande became the only artist since The Beatles to have multiple songs simultaneously on the top 3 spots on the US Billboard Hot 100. Additionally, all of the songs from the album charted within the US top 50 as well. This time around, Grande opted to work on the album with friends, such as frequent contributors Victoria Monét, Max Martin, Ilya and Tommy Brown. The album was completed in just 3 months. In 2020 Grande published the album “Positions” in the style of pop and R&B.

Song Notes Ref.
"You're My Only Shawty"
  • Features singer Iyaz.
  • Leaked in 2012.
  • It was given to Demi Lovato for her 2011 album Unbroken, where she released it as "You're My Only Shorty".
[57]
"Do You Love Me"
  • Features rapper Sky Blu.
  • Intended for Grande's first studio album, Yours Truly (2013).
  • Grande released a snippet in 2012 which was the version meant to appear on Yours Truly.
  • The version featuring Sky Blu leaked online and it's a rough version of the song.
  • It samples the song "Do You Love Me" (1962) by The Contours.
"Pink Champagne" [59][60]
"Boyfriend Material"
  • Intended for Yours Truly (2013).
  • The song was later purchased by f(x), a South Korean girl group, and reworked into their song "No More" (2013).
  • Grande later released the song's studio version on May 14, 2014.
[61]
"Ain't About What You Got "
  • Intended for Grande's second studio album, My Everything (2014).
  • The song was later purchased by STAR.
[62]
"I Don't Want to Be Alone For Christmas"
  • Song written by Diane Warren.
  • A demo was leaked and uploaded to YouTube in November 2013.
  • The song was subsequently featured in full in an article on perezhilton.com in November 2014.
[63]
"Nobody Does It Better"
  • Intended for Yours Truly (2013).
  • Leaked on May 8, 2016.
[61]
"Ridiculous"
  • Originally intended for My Everything (2014).
  • Grande has said about the song: "It's a great song—I love it. I'm not sure if I'll be able to keep it or not because there's a little string sample in it, but I want to take all the music out and do something different anyway. So I'm going to change that."
  • Leaked on October 22, 2017.
  • The version of the song that leaked is not the version with the string sample Grande talked about, but a reworked version.
[64]
"Don't Be Gone Too Long"
  • Duet with singer Chris Brown.
  • Intended for Brown's sixth studio album, X (2014).
  • The song, which in its original form features Grande, was announced to be released as a single on March 25, 2014. However, due to Brown's legal problems at the time, the single release was scrapped on March 17, even though a music video had already been filmed.
  • As such, Grande was eventually missing from the album version of the song and had her vocals replaced by Cathy Dennis (one of the song's writers).
  • Even though the music video for the song with Grande had leaked in 2014, Brown officially uploaded the video to his YouTube account on March 8, 2018.
[65][66][67]
"I've Heard It Both Ways"
  • Intended for Grande's third studio album, Dangerous Woman (2016).
  • The song is currently listed on ASCAP

  • Intended as an intro for Dangerous Woman (2016).
  • Eventually used as an interlude on the Dangerous Woman Tour (2017).
  • On May 27, 2019, the official studio version of "Baby Loves" was posted on YouTube after being widespread by a user on Instagram, who discovered it on Vimeo, uploaded from 'Big Noise Films'. Hannah Lux Davis, the director of the visual in which the song appears, confirmed the name of the track was "Baby Loves".
