Mahmudul Hasan (scholar)
Allama Mahmudul Hasan (Bengali: মাহমুদুল হাসান) ( born: 5 July 1950 ) is a Bangladeshi Deobandi Islamic scholar, writer, religious reformer, educator, public speaker and spiritual figure. He is the President of Al-Haiatul Ulya Lil-Jamiatil Qawmia Bangladesh and Befaqul Madarisil Arabia Bangladesh , Chancellor of Jamia Islamia Darul Uloom Madania, Khatib at Gulshan Central Jama Masjid, Editor In Chief of Monthly Al-Jamia and Amir of Majlis-e-Dawatul Haq Bangladesh. Name and lineage
Mahmudul Hasan was born on 5 July 1950 in a village called Charkharicha under Kotwali Thana in Mymensingh District . His father's name is Galimuddin Ahmed and mother's name is Fatema Ramzani.[12]
Education
His elementary education was at home. He learned Quran with Qari Abdur Rashid and completed his primary education in Charkharicha Primary School. Then he was admitted at Jamia Islamia Madrasa in Mymensingh. His father died while he is in class 6 here. Next year, his mother died in the month of Ramadan. Then he studied at Jamia Arabia Ashraful Uloom Balia Madrasa in Mymensingh till class 8. While he studying at Jalaline Jamaat in Jamia Qurania Arabia Lalbagh in 1967, Shamsul Haque Faridpuri, principle of the madrasa, advised him to go to Muhammad Yousuf Banuri in Pakistan. In 1968, he admitted at Meshkat Jamaat in Jamia Uloom-ul-Islamia, Pakistan . He studied Sahih al-Bukhari in 1969 under Muhammad Yousuf Banuri.[13]
Then he participated in the Central Examination of Wifaq ul Madaris Al-Arabia, Pakistan and won the first position in the merit list, which was the highest result in the history of Wifaq. Then he memorized the Quran in 28 days.[12] He returned to the country after hearing the news of his brother Nuruddin's illness.[13]
He returned to Pakistan in 1970 and pursued higher studies at Jamia Uloom-ul-Islamia . He helped Muhammad Yousuf Banuri to wrote "Ma'arif Us Sunan", a Commentary of Jami' al-Tirmidhi. He wrote a three-volume book, Al-Imam Abu Yusuf: Muhaddisan wa Faqihan, under the direction of Muhammad Yousuf Banuri .[13]
Among his teachers are: Muhammad Yousuf Banuri , Idris Mirathi, Wali Hasan Tonki, Hedayatullah, Omar Shankiti, Saleemullah Khan, Zafar Ahmad Usmani , Muhammad Zakariyya al-Kandhlawi and others.[13]
Career
After completing his education, he started his career by teaching at Jessore Railway Station Madrasa. At the same time he was teaching as a part-time teacher at Jadavpur Madrasa. Then he joined at Jamia Islamia Darul Uloom Madania by Kazi Mutasim Billah. He moved to Pakistan after teaching at Jatrabari Jamia for 6 months. Then he joined in Jamia Farooqia Karachi , the headquarters of Wifaq ul Madaris Al-Arabia, Pakistan. In 1964 he rejoined at Jatrabari Jamia. In 1980, he was appointed the Chancellor of this Jamia.[13]
Currently He is Khatib at Gulshan Central Azad Mosque and Eidgah Society, Amir of Majlish-e-Dawatul Haque Bangladesh .[12]
On 3 October 2020, he is elected President of Befaqul Madarisil Arabia Bangladesh , the largest education board of Qawmi Madrasah . According to law, he is the President of Al-Haiatul Ulya Lil-Jamiatil Qawmia Bangladesh , the highest education board of Qawmi Madrasah.[1][4]
Family
He has 2 sons : Maimun Hasan and Masroor Hasan and 4 daughters.[13]
Tasawwuf
Hasan was a disciple of Abrarul Haq Haqqi, who was a senior successor of Ashraf Ali Thanwi in Sufism.[13] Hasan's disciples include Nizamuddin Shamzai.[13]
Publications
He has published hundreds of books in Arabic , Bengali and Urdu . He started a monthly journal called Al Jamia in 1983. His book Al-Irshad iIa Sabilir Rashad is a compilation of his lectures in the Arab world.[13] His books include:
