Battalion patch

The Demilitarized Medical Battalion provides assistance to all volunteers, military and civilians in the war zone and in need of domedic assistance or therapeutic treatment. Paramedic crews evacuate, stabilize and transport the injured from the red area to the hospitals.[5] Volunteers provide ongoing support to the wounded in the city of Dnipro, at the Mechnikov Hospital - a place to transport the worst injured people. Post-hospital support and rehabilitation of the injured and their families are also provided.[6]

«Hospitaliers» positions are located in the hottest spots of the front to provide skilled assistance to Ukrainian volunteer troops and official forces of the Armed Forces.[7] Members of the battalion stand directly in combat positions with the Ukrainian military forces, which makes it possible to assist more effectively and quickly during combat and increases the chances of successful evacuation and stabilization of the wounded.[8][9] There are permanent positions in frontline hospitals, such as in the city of Avdiivka, where they share responsibilities with doctors to strengthen the 66th Hospital.[10]

Medical training is also an important task for the Hospitaliers, which is carried regularly once a month from the beginning of spring to late autumn.[11] Experienced paramedics among the most qualified hospitaliers can be instructors. Training is popular with both combatants and civilians who do not aim to link their future with war.[12] The knowledge and skills acquired during training are extremely effective during emergencies in civilian life as well.

At the beginning of 2016, the medical battalion «Hospitaliers» moved to the structure of the Ukrainian Volunteer Army under the leadership of Dmytro Yarosh.[13]

Awards

Commander of the Hospitallers Battalion Yana Zinkevych was awarded the State Order of Merit of the 3rd degree and the Non-State Order of the People's Hero of Ukraine.
