Mircea Dușa

Mircea Dușa (born 1 April 1955 in Toplița) is a Romanian economist and politician, who was the Minister of National Defense from 21 December 2012 to 17 November 2015 in the cabinets of former Prime Minister Victor Ponta.

Life

Dușa was born to Romanian working-class parents in the Magyar Autonomous Region during the Communist regime. He finished his secondary education in 1974 and for two years fulfilled his military service. In 1976, he returned to civilian life and became an official with the City People's Council in Topliţa. He was elected to the board of his city in 1986 and holds the position of Vice President.

On 4 November 2015, Dușa was proposed as Prime Minister of the Interim Government after the resignation of Victor Ponta by the latter; however Romanian President Klaus Iohannis named Dacian Cioloș Prime Minister on 17 November 2015. .[1] However President Klaus Iohannis appointed Sorin Cîmpeanu, the Minister of National Education, as acting prime minister on the following day, instead of Dușa.[2]
