Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest 2006

Nationaal Songfestival 2006 was the national final that selected Netherlands's entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2006. The competition consisted of a final on 12 March 2006 which took place at the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam, hosted by Paul de Leeuw.

Nine candidate songs performed by three artists invited by NOS competed in the final where the winner was determined over two rounds of voting. In the first round, each act performed three candidate songs each and three of the nine songs, by one act each, proceeded to the superfinal based on the votes from a ten-member jury panel. In the superfinal, the winner was selected exclusively by public televoting. Viewers were able to vote via telephone and SMS.

Composers were able to submit their entries between 22 November 2005 and 16 January 2006.[1] A total of 174 entries were received by the broadcaster: 45 of them for Treble, 82 for Maud and 47 for Behave, and each of the three artists selected one song for the competition. An additional two songs were provided by each of the three acts themselves for the competition. The nine competing entries were announced on 15 February 2006.[2][3]

The final took place on 12 March 2006. In the first round, the three artists each performed three potential Eurovision entries and the votes of a ten-member jury selected one song per act that would proceed to the superfinal: "Amambanda" performed by Treble, "Heaven Knows" performed by Behave and "I'm Alive" performed by Maud. In the superfinal, the winner, "Amambanda" performed by Treble, was selected solely by the public televoting.[4]
