Professional career

On 13th May, 2017, Gevor faced Krzysztof Wlodarczyk in a final eliminator for the IBF cruiserweight title. Gevor was ranked #1 by the WBO, #3 by the IBF, #4 by the WBA and #12 by the WBC at the time, while Wlodarczyk was also highly ranked with all official governing bodies, namely #3 by the WBC, #4 by the IBF, #5 by the WBO and #7 by the WBA.[1]Gevor was more consistent throughout the first part of the fight, and Wlodarczyk proved more constant in the second part of the fight. In the end, the judges awarded Wlodarczyk the split-decision win, two judges scoring the fight 116-112 and 115-113 in favor of Wlodarczyk and one judge scoring it 115-113 in favor of Gevor.[2]

In his next high-profile fight, Gevor fought Latvian Mairis Briedis as a part of the World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight quarter-final. The fight ended up being full of illegal shots and foul play from both boxers. Even though Gevor seemed like the busier man, the judges saw Briedis as the clear winner, awarding him with the unanimous decision win.[3][4]
