In February, 2011, the 1999 Chevrolet Lumina owned by Torray Wallace, 36, of Fredericton, was found abandoned in the park. After finding the abandoned vehicle Maine police, wardens, marine patrol officers and members of the U.S. Coast Guard launched an intensive five-day search with no results.[6] Torray Wallace [7] appeared as himself in the 2005 documentary BBS: The Documentary.

In July 2013, two women, one from nearby Machias and the other visiting from Pennsylvania, drowned after driving off a boat ramp in the park during high tide and inclement weather.[8] The women had been rescued earlier in the day after getting lost while hiking in the fog.[9]
