Sloppy Giuseppe

Sloppy Giuseppe is a flavour of pizza found primarily in the United Kingdom, made popular by the Pizza Express chain of Italian style restaurants. The name is an Italianisation of the Sloppy Joe, a type of meat sauce often served on a hamburger bun.

It is most commonly a combination of green peppers, red onion and spicy beef. The spicy beef is usually ground, although a few restaurants and pizzerias tend to use diced beef. According to news website The Post, the Sloppy Giuseppe caused the average customer to spend an extra 11% in Pizza Express's Irish outlets.[1]

Pizza Express, which originated the pizza, presents a fanciful backstory on their menus and packaging about its supposed invention by a clumsy chef named Giuseppe in one of their locations. (The Sloppy Joe sandwich is not a common food item in the United Kingdom.)
