Basak, after earning an M.Sc.in Biochemistry from the Ballygunge Campus of University of Calcutta, did his doctoral research at the same institution under the guidance of Prof. Dhrubajyoti Chattopadhyay to secure a Ph.D.[2] His post-doctoral work was at the University of California, San Diego at the laboratory of Prof. Alexander Hoffmann. On his return to India, he joined the National Institute of Immunology where he heads a group of researchers.[1] He has published a number of research articles in peer-reviewed journals,[3][note 1] ResearchGate, an online repository of scientific articles has listed 52 of them.[4][5] The Department of Biotechnology of the Government of India awarded him the National Bioscience Award for Career Development, one of the highest Indian science awards, for his contributions to biosciences, in 2017/18.[6]
