South Street Diner

South Street Diner is a 24-hour,[1] seven-night-a-week diner in Boston's Leather District. The Diner was built in 1947 by the Worcester Dining Company. It was originally named the Blue Diner.[2] The diner is known for attracting many after-hours customers. Busiest hours are anywhere between 1 and 4 in the morning when all the night owls rush in for the Boston Cream Pancakes. It was named Best of Boston by Boston Magazine,[3] as well as named for The Best Late Night Food in the US by Esquire.[4] Thrillist Group named South Street Diner one of the best 24-Hour Diners in the country.[5][6] The Diner has been the set of many films including Hiding Out, Second Sight, and House Guest.[7] South Street Diner was featured in the Boston episode of Esquire Network's "The Getaway" hosted by Paul Feig. The episode aired November 13, 2013.[8] South Street Diner was most recently featured in an issue of DC Comics' "Batgirl".[9][10] More recent appearances also include the films, The Equalizer with Denzel Washington; 21 with Kevin Spacey; and The Blue Diner for PBS. On top of all that, thousands of people have been crowding to this famous eatery to collect points while playing the popular mobile, Pokémon Go and the owner Sol Sidell is bringing back his famed Customer Appreciation Day on September 18 from 2-6PM.

The Diner was the subject of the 2012 documentary ,[11] 24 Hours At The South Street Diner, directed by Melissa Dowler, which was an official selection at IFF Boston,[12] The Woods Hole Film Festival[13] and NewFilmmakers New York.[14]

The Diner is also known for the Celebrities, Musicians, and A-listers it has attracted over the years including Don King,[15] Donnie Wahlberg, Robert Plant,[16] The Grateful Dead,[16] Morgan Freeman,[16] and Chris Evans.[16] Other celebrities that have been seen at South Street Diner include Jackie Mason,[17] Clay Buchholz,[18] Kathy Griffin, Jackie Gleason, Neil Young,[19] Jim Schultz,[18] Kevin Hart, and Christopher Walken.[18]

South Street Diner participates in many holidays, offering holiday themed menus and a festive atmosphere. A popular, largely celebrated holiday at the diner – Saint Patrick's Day – draws in many for their Corned Beef, Cabbage, and Guinness special.[20][21][22][23] It is also a popular destination for policemen, firemen and first responders from all over New England and the Northeast to converge at the diner in uniform and trade stories before heading off to partake and march in the annual St. Patrick's Day parade in South Boston.
