UTCB is a member of the Romanian Alliance of Technical Universities (ARUT).[2]

History

Having its roots in the “School for Land Surveyors” and in the “The School of Bridges, Roads and Mines” founded in Bucharest in 1818 and 1867, respectively, UTCB’s actual basic structure was established in 1948. It is the only Romanian university entirely devoted to education in civil engineering and the related fields, having a long history of successful contributions in Romanian research and education.

With a competitive and well recognised academic staff, UTCB is a major actor in higher education, research, consultancy, and design codes regulations.

Following the institutional evaluation performed by the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ARACIS) – member of ENQA, UTCB received a High Confidence Rating.[3]

Mission

Starting from the social dimension of higher education and from the need of the society to benefit from quality educational and research services in the field of constructions for its sustainable development, the fundamental mission assumed by the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest is to be a national center for the training of new generations of specialists and high-performance scientific research in the field of construction.

Vision

Our vision is to promote excellence in education and research, by transforming UTCB into a university of advanced research and construction education, and to become a landmark and a formidable partner at national, European and international level for universities, institutes and research centers, for the corporate environment and for society.

For education, the vision requires, above all, the completion of the Bologna process through the complete harmonization of undergraduate, master’s and doctoral studies and the full integration into the European higher education area (http://www.ehea.info/).

For research, the vision requires the selection and support of priority research directions for UTCB for full integration into the European research area (http://ec.europa.eu/research/era/index_en.htm).

The strategic plan for the period 2016 – 2020 aims, as a whole, at the general development of the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest, the accentuated increase of the university’s visibility at national and international level, the increase of the effectiveness and efficiency of student training services and performance in scientific research.
