The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in New Jersey

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in New Jersey reported 33,726 members in six stakes, one district, 64 congregations (42 wards and 22 branches), and one mission in New Jersey, as of December 31, 2017.[1][2]

History

Orson Pratt and Lyman E. Johnson, future leaders of LDS Church, preached as missionaries in New Jersey in 1832.[3]

In 2013, a new meetinghouse was built in Newark, New Jersey, a 35,000-square-foot church topped by a 45-foot steeple adjacent to the Newark Broad Street station.[4]

In 2014, a meetinghouse was built in Camden, New Jersey.[5]

David L. Buckner formed the first Young Adult stake in the New York City region on June 18, 2018.[6]

In 2020, the LDS Church canceled services and other public gatherings indefinitely in response to the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.[7]
