Premise

Out in a secluded cabin in the Catskill Mountains, Tyler, a young black man, joins his all white friends for a weekend of debauchery as friendships are tested.

In March 2017, it was announced Sebastián Silva would write and direct the film, while Michael Cera, Caleb Landry Jones, Jason Mitchell, Christopher Abbott and Roddy Bottum would star in the film.[3]

Release

The film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2018.[4][5] Shortly after, Magnolia Pictures acquired distribution rights to the film.[6] It was released on December 5, 2018.[7]

Reception

The film received mixed reception. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a 60% approval rating, based on 50 reviews with an average score of 6.26/10. The website's critics consensus reads: "Tyrel uses its seemingly innocuous setup to take an admirably uncomfortable -- albeit occasionally somewhat diffuse -- look at modern American race relations."[8]
