History

The station became WSKZ in August 1978 in which the station formerly co-owned with their nearby AM station WGOW during its early years. By 1981, the station became a Top 40/CHR format, in which WSKZ is the only radio station in Chattanooga that broadcast a fully remained Top 40 station. The station formerly compete against their nearby Top 40 station WBDX in 1989. KZ106 aired its Top 40 format until 1992, when the station returned back to simulcasting WGOW after being a Top 40 station to the city for more than a decade. The station became the current classic rock format in 2000.
