2012 Silverstone GP2 and GP3 Series rounds
The 2012 Silverstone GP2 Series round and the 2012 Silverstone GP3 Series round was a group of motor races held at the Silverstone Circuit in Great Britain for the GP2 and GP3 Series championships.[1][2] The races, held on 7 and 8 July, were in support of the British Formula One Grand Prix. The GP2 races were the seventh round of the 2012 GP2 championship, while the GP3 races formed the fourth round of the 2012 GP3 season.
Trident Racing entered a third car for Giovanni Venturini in the GP3 category, making the Silverstone rounds the first time the GP3 Series had been run with a full twenty-seven car grid in 2012.[3]
Mexican Esteban Gutierrez won the feature race while Brazilian Luiz Razia won the sprint race. Series leader Valsecchi was penalized and sent to the back of the starting grid due to the infringement of a technical regulation related to the quantity of fuel available after the qualifying session. As a result, Razia ended up leading the GP2 Championship after Silverstone.[4]

- ^2 — Giedo van der Garde was given a ten-place grid penalty for overtaking another car during a red-flag period.[6]
- ^3 — Davide Valsecchi was given a ten-place grid penalty for overtaking another car during a red-flag period, but was then found to be in violation of the same regulation as Coletti, Nasr and Ericsson, and was moved to the back of the grid.

Qualifying
Notes:
- ^1 — David Fumanelli and Alice Powell were both given two place grid penalties for taking the chequered flag twice at the end of the Qualifying session.[10]
- ^2 — Tamás Pál Kiss wash given a ten-place grid penalty for ignoring yellow flags during the first practice session.[11]
- ^3 — Ethan Ringel was given a ten-place grid penalty for ignoring yellow flags during the first practice session. He later received a two-place grid penalty for taking the chequered flag twice at the end of qualifying. As Ringel qualified twenty-sixth of the twenty-six drivers to set a lap time, and so started the feature race from the back of the grid.[11]
- ^4 — Carmen Jordá was given a two-place grid penalty for taking the chequered flag twice at the end of qualifying.[10] However, as she did not set a lap time within 107% of Mitch Evans' pole position time, she was not given permission to start the race.
