Alina Jidkova

Alina Vladimirovna Zhidkova (Russian: Алина Владимировна Жидкова; born 18 January 1977) is a former professional tennis player from Russia. In her career, Jidkova won one WTA doubles title in 2005 Abierto Mexicano Telcel. She also won nine singles and nine doubles titles on the ITF Women's Circuit. On March 7, 2005, she reached her best singles ranking of world No. 51, while on August 4, 2003, she reached her best doubles ranking of world No. 50.

Early life

Born in Moscow, then part of Soviet Union, she started playing tennis in Spartak Tennis Club, the club which produced many future champions. Later, she moved to US and has been trained at Nick Bollettieri academy in Florida.

Biography

She beat Serena Williams in straight sets at 2004 Linz tournament. Aside from Williams, she has career victories against many notable players, including another former number 1 player Jelena Janković, Mary Pierce, Chanda Rubin, Samantha Stosur, Daniela Hantuchová, Amanda Coetzer, Meghann Shaughnessy, Mirjana Lučić-Baroni, Amy Frazier, Alona Bondarenko, Petra Martic and Vera Dushevina.

In 2005, she won WTA Mexican Open doubles title in Acapulco, partnering with Tatiana Perebiynis.

Jidkova underwent knee surgery on 3 April 2001 for torn meniscus suffered during practice after Miami, returning to action in late April.

Retirement and coaching career

She retired from professional tennis at the end of the 2010 season. She played her last official match against Monica Puig, 2016 Olympic champion. After her retirement she worked as a coach for Galina Voskoboeva and Ksenia Pervak.

Personal life

Jidkova resides in Boca Raton, Florida, and she is married to entrepreneur Sascha Ghods. The two married on 18 December 2010 in a ceremony in Vienna, Austria.
