Andre Beteille

He was born on 30 September 1934.

Dr. Beteille receives the Padma Bhushan from the President of India A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, c. 2005.

He was a Professor of Sociology at the Delhi School of Economics at the University of Delhi where, since 2003, he remains Professor Emeritus of Sociology.[1] He was appointed National Research Professor by the Government of India in 2007.[2] He is a recipient of the Indian civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan and also FBA.[3]

Presently he is the Chancellor of North Eastern Hill University, Shillong, Meghalaya [4] and prior to that he was the Chancellor of Ashoka University.[5]
