In 1989, a conference in Elabuga Tatarstan, decided to create a new venture for the production of inexpensive vehicles by screwdriver assembly.

The company was organised as an association where members provided their shares in the form of free workshops.

Members

The venture was organized as an association of manufacturers, with 37 enterprises pooling their resources.

These included: Karpov Chemical Plant (Mendeleyevsk), Ivanovo Machine Tool Association (provided plant in Shuya), joint venture "Intertap", Tatneftekhimmontage, and others.

Location

Although it was a member of the Elabuzhskij city executive Committee, a registered company, it soon moved its headquarters to Naberezhnye Chelny.

It originally planned to carry out the assembly in Mendeleevsk and Shuya.

Foreign Partner

FSV, a British company that released the Rickman Ranger car with rear-wheel drive and the frame structure, was selected as a foreign partner.

According to the agreement, 70% of the car company was to be sent to FSV, with plans to fully localise the assembly in the future.

History

  • On 27 May 1991, Mendeleevsk opened production, but a lot of hope was put in the Shuya factory, since it had more power.

Also in 1991, it began production of the Avtokam Ranger car.

  • In 1992, the cars were renamed to Avtokam-2160.

Before the year ended, 48 cars were collected in Mendeleevsk and Shuya, and 2 cars in Stakhanov, Ukraine.

The partnership with FSV ended. On failing to add another 950 kits, the leadership had disappeared.

Between plants and any contradictions, production was discontinued in Shuya, and imported parts were replaced by Russian parts.

  • In 1993, production began at the Velta Machine-Building Plant, which formed a joint venture called Permavto Ltd, together with Avtokam (in 1993 became a joint-stock company), Perm factory "MASHINOSTROITEL", and the Ural Research Institute of composite materials.

The company cars were now called Avtokam-Parma.

  • In 1995, Avtokam left the joint venture by selling the technical documentation.

The inscription on the grille changed from Avtokam to Velta. It had modified the front end of the car, and launched production of a longer version.

  • In 1995, zavaod became a subsidiary of the joint Russian-Austrian joint venture Mende-Rossi. Production Mendeleevsk lasted until 1997.
  • In 1997, there was the release of two cars with all-wheel drive: one Velta-2163 and one Velta-21631 (higher roof).

In 1997, production was discontinued in Perm.

Total in late 1993 and 1997, there were issued 53-2160 Autocom car in the basic version.

  • In 1999, he was released and another car on this production ceased.

The total has been issued no more than 150 pieces.
