Background

Speaking of "Back in Blood", Pooh Shiesty spoke on his collaboration process with Lil Durk:

Durk hit me up like, "I fuck with you." I said, "Appreciate it, bro." He said, "We gon' get some shit in for sure." I said, "Where you at? Send your number, I'll push up on you now." He said, "I'm finna come to Atlanta." Week later, he came to Atlanta. Called me and said, "Push up." I pulled up to the studio and we locked in.[2]

Additionally, the song was released on the day that American rapper King Von passed away due to a shooting, but only three hours before.[3] Him and Lil Durk were very close; they were labelmates who were signed to the latter's record label, Only the Family, and they grew up together in Chicago, Illinois.[4] Timothy Leeks was arrested in suspicion to his murder the day after it happened, on November 7, 2020.[5]

Music video

The official music video for the song was directed by Jerry Productions and was released on January 2, 2021.[6] Pooh Shiesty and Lil Durk are dancing in the trenches of the latter's hometown of Chicago, Illinois.[7] They also pay tribute to the late King Von, who makes a short cameo appearance in it.[8]
