Battle of Başgedikler

The Battle of Başgedikler - major battle between Russian and Turkish troops during the Crimean War at the Caucasian theater. It happened on December 1 near the village Bashkadyklar (now Bashgedikler), 35 km east of the Turkish fortress Kars. A Russian corps under the command of General Bebutov (about 10 thousand men, 32 guns) attacked the Anatolian Turkish army under the command Reis-Akhmet Pasha (36 thousand people, 46 guns), who tried to stop the advance of Russian troops to Kars.

During the battle, Russian troops broke through the defenses of the Turkish positions with a flank attack, capturing the main artillery position of the Turks. The Turks fled, leaving their camp. Losses of Turkish troops amounted to 6,000 people, Russians 1, 500.
