Close to Campo Baixo, a small chapel on a hill which is shaped like a ship, is worth a visit.[2] The name "Santa Maria" referring to the ship of Christopher Columbus is painted on the ship. There are similar monuments or chapels in other places in Cape Verde as well, e.g. in Nova Sintra.[3] From the hill, which is close to the road to Palhal, there is a beautiful view of the village and its surroundings.
