Chandrika (newspaper)

Chandrika is a Malayalam newspaper run by the Muslim Printing and Publishing Company, Kerala.[2][3][4][5][6][7] It is the mouthpiece of Indian Union Muslim League[8] and is published from Kozhikode, Kannur, Malappuram, Kochi, Trivandrum, Kottayam, Doha, Dubai, Riyadh, Bahrain, Dammam and Jeddah. Chandrika was founded as a first attempt to have a newspaper from Malabar Muslims to support the backward communities.

History

Chandrika was established in the year 1934 at Thalassery and it has celebrated its Platinum Jubilee in January 2011. Chandrika started publishing from Kozhikode in 1936.

Former Kerala Chief Minister Mr. C.H. Mohammed Koya was once the chief editor of Chandrika.

Former Union Minister Mr. E. Ahamed was once reporter of the daily and later served in the Board of Directors of the newspaper.[9]

As per the reports in "Thenewindianexpress",After booking former PWD Minister in the Palarivattom flyover corruption case, the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau conducted raids at the main office of Chandrika daily. [10]

Definition

Chandrika (in Sanskrit) means blissful moonlight.
