History

Cora may have been named after Cora House, an early resident of the area and cowgirl.[4][5] In the early 20th century, the town post office was moved to its current site from a ranch one mile to the east. [6] Dog sleds were used at one time to make winter deliveries to residents who lived in the Cora area and the rest of the Upper Green River valley.[7]

In 2011, the United States Postal Service considered closing the Cora post office for budgetary reasons. Residents of Cora protested and wrote letters to the USPS requesting that the post office remain open because it serves as a gathering place for the community.[8] As of 2020, the post office is still open.
