Performance

Performance was the talent show developed by CyBC in order to select Cyprus' entrant for the Eurovision Song Contest 2011.[2] The competition commenced on 19 March 2010 with thirteen shows aired weekly until 11 June 2010. 39 contestants (aged between 16 and 30 years old) from the "Song Interpretation" category competed during the shows, and the top nine contestants progressed to the final on 10 September 2010 through a combination of votes from a four-member judging panel (60%) and public televoting (40%).[3][4] The panel consisted of Lia Vissi (Cypriot Eurovision representative in 1985), Costas Kakoyiannis (musician and music teacher), Neoclis Neocleous (actor) and Fotis Nikolaou (choreographer). The shows were broadcast on RIK 1, RIK Sat as well as online via the broadcaster's website cybc.cy.[5]

Final

The final was broadcast live on 10 September 2010 at the CyBC Studio 3 in Nicosia, hosted by Marina Maleni. The nine contestants selected from the weekly shows competed and the winner, Christos Mylordos, who performed "Supreme" by Robbie Williams, was selected exclusively by public televoting.[6][7][8]

Song selection

On 26 November 2010, CyBC announced that the Christos Mylordos' contest song would be internally selected.[9] Composers were able to submit their songs to the broadcaster until 31 December 2010, and the entry was selected by a seven-member jury panel.[10] 11 songs were received by CyBC, and the selected song, "San aggelos s'agapisa", was presented to the public on 28 February 2011 during the CyBC evening news broadcast.[11][12]

At Eurovision

According to local media, Alex Panayi, who had already represented Cyprus in 1995 and 2000, was being considered as an option to join the Cypriot team as a backing vocalist.[13] On December 2010, Alex Panayi denied the rumors, but said that he was willing to help and support if CyBC asks him to.[14]

Cyprus competed ninth in the second semi-final of the contest, on 12 May. Cyprus placed eighteenth with 16 points and failed to qualify for the final.

Split results
