Eurosong 2008

Eurosong 2008 was the national selection process organised by ČT in order to select Czech Republic's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2008. The competition took place on 26 January 2008 at the Prazské Výstavište in Prague, hosted by Aleš Háma and Katerina Kristelová and broadcast on ČT1 as well as streamed online via the broadcaster's website ceskatelevize.cz.[1]

Competing entries

Ten artists were nominated by Eurosong 2008 project manager Martin Hrdinka and invited by ČT to compete.[2] The ten selected finalists were presented to the public on 3 January 2008.[3]

Final

The final took place on 26 January 2008. The winner, "Have Some Fun" performed by Tereza Kerndlová, was selected exclusively by a public SMS vote which ran from 3 January 2008 to 26 January 2008.

At Eurovision

Tereza Kerndlova was a special guest at the Ukrainian nation selection, where she promoted the Czech entry.[4] Since Czech Republic had come in 28th in the semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2007, Tereza was obliged to perform her song in one of the two semi-finals of the 2008 contest.[5] The EBU split up countries with a friendly voting history into the two different semi-finals, to give a better chance to other countries to win. On 28 January 2008, the EBU held a special draw which determined that Czech Republic would be in the second semi-final, held on 22 May 2008. The Czech Republic took part in the second semi-final on 22 May 2008. She placed second-last, getting nine points: five from Macedonia, two from Croatia, one from Malta and one from Turkey.
