Georgia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010

Georgia competed in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010, returning after a year's absence. Georgian broadcaster GPB internally selected Sopho Nizharadze to sing for Georgia at the Contest in May 2010. Nizharadze performed six songs on 27 February. "Shine" was chosen to be sung at the contest in Oslo, Norway, after the votes of a public televote and a professional jury. The song was written by Hanne Sørvaag, Harry Sommerdahl and Christian Leuzzi, and was Sørvaag's third Eurovision composition.[1][2]

Before Eurovision

Artist selection

On 16 January 2010, the broadcaster held a press conference and announced that they had internally selected Sopho Nizharadze to represent Georgia in Oslo.[3][4]

National final

GPB announced that a national final would be held to select their song, and a public song submission would be opened from 17 January 2010 until 3 February 2010.[5] Over 100 entries were received from both Georgian and foreign composers by the submission deadline.[6] An expert commission selected the top six songs from the received entries. The songs were revealed on 9 February 2010.[7][8] Among the selected composers were former Eurovision composers Tinatin Japaridze, Svika Pick, Carlos Coelho, Andrej Babić and Hanne Sørvaag.

The competition took place on 27 February 2010 at the Tbilisi Event Hall in Tbilisi, hosted by Neli Agirba and Duta Skhirtladze. The winning song was determined by the 50/50 combination of the votes of a jury panel and public SMS voting.[1] The winning song was "Shine".

Nizharadze was a guest at the Azeri national final on 2 March, performing her winning entry "Shine".[2][9]

At Eurovision

Georgia competed in the second semi-final of the contest on 27 May, performing in the 16th slot, and qualified for the final. Georgia came 9th in the final, with 136 points.

  • In the Semi-final 2 Georgia came 3rd with 106 points: the public awarded Georgia 5th place with 102 points and the jury awarded 1st place with 117 points.
  • In the Final Georgia came 9th with 136 points: the public awarded Georgia 9th place with 127 points and the jury awarded 4th place with 160 points.
