Before Eurovision
Early rumours
In December 2009, a video posted on YouTube which claimed that Armenia would be represented by a duet between rapper and dancer Mihran and Emmy. However no official statement was ever made by AMRTV on the video, and news on a public selection was later confirmed.[1]
National final
On 13 December 2009, AMRTV officially confirmed their Eurovision participation in 2010.[2] On 18 December 2009, it was announced that a public national final will be held on 14 February 2010, featuring ten songs.
Competing entries
Artists and composers were able to submit their entries to the broadcaster between 18 December 2009 and 1 February 2010.[3][4] From all songs submitted to AMPTV, a jury selected 10 songs for the competition, with the selected entrants being announced on 4 February 2010. The running order draw was held on 11 February 2010.[5][6][7]
On 10 February 2010, it was announced that Sonya with the song "Never" had withdrawn from the contest due to health problems.[8]
Final
The final took place on 14 February 2010. Nine songs competed with the winner being decided upon by a 50/50 combination of the votes from a jury and a public televote.[3] The winner was Eva Rivas with the song "Apricot Stone", coming first in the televote and second in the jury vote.[9][10]
In addition to the performances of the competing entries, a number of past Armenian entrants performed as interval acts: Sirusho (2008, 4th place); Andre (2006, 8th place) and Inga and Anush (2009, 10th place). Luara Hayrapetyan, Armenian entrant for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2009 (2nd place) and Lys Assia, the first winner of the Eurovision Song Contest, also performed as interval acts.[11]
