Great American Rail-Trail

The Great American Rail-Trail is a cross country rail trail in the United States.[1] The trail runs 3,700 miles (6,000 km) between Washington D.C. in the east and the state of Washington in the west. When completed the trail will run through 12 states,[lower-alpha 1][2] and be within 50 miles (80 km) of 50 million Americans.[3] The work is being facilitated by the Rails to Trails Conservancy.[4] Constructing the Rail Trail involves connecting 145 existing bicycle trails, and filling gaps in 95 existing trails. The project was started in May 2019.[5]
