The local council is Harpenden Rural Parish Council.
It was created in 1898 when the Harpenden parish was split into Harpenden Urban in Harpenden Urban District and Harpenden Rural in St Albans Rural District.[2]
The parish includes Kinsbourne Green, and Rothamsted Manor, including the Rothamsted Experimental Station.
