Jeffrey Kitingan
Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Jeffrey Gapari Kitingan (born 22 October 1948) is Malaysian politician who has served as the Deputy Chief Minister II of Sabah since September 2020. He has served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Keningau since May 2018, Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Tambunan since May 2018 and Bingkor from May 2013 to May 2018. He has served and been founding President of the Homeland Solidarity Party (STAR), a component party of the federal and state ruling Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) since 2020. He was born in the town of Kota Marudu but hailed in the interior district of Tambunan and graduated from Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. His brother, Joseph Pairin Kitingan, is also a seasoned politician who served as the Chief Minister of Sabah from 1985 to 1994.

Jeffrey Kitingan's Party, The Parti STAR Sabah is the one of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition since September 2020. Datuk Jeffrey Kitingan agreed to join the Coalition of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) in September 2020. After the 2020 Sabah state election, GRS has won with 38 seats, and Datuk Jeffrey Kitingan's Party, The Homeland Solidarity Party (STAR) has won 6 seats. Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan agreed to the giving slogan of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah - GRS, "Sayangi Sabah", for the theme of Sabah Election 2020 and agreed for the new GRS Slogan, "Sabah Maju Jaya" after become the Sabah government because to focus more to "Build the New Sabah". in 9 Januari 2021, Homeland Solidarity Party (STAR Sabah) has signed the "MoU" for Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Agreement. The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) is the biggest political cooperation in the State of Sabah. Jeffrey Kitingan has been recognized as a Medical and Political expert from Havard University with the title of Doctor of Philosophy. He was also one of the Leaders of Sabah Independence (Together with Tun Fuad Stephen and Tun Mustapha at a young age of Jeffrey Kitingan) and had fought to liberate Sabah from British occupation ("Britain").
Political career
Jeffrey is the Founder and the President of Homeland Solidarity Party Sabah (STAR Sabah) since 2016. His party is the one of the component of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS). Homeland Solidarity Party Sabah (STAR Sabah) is GRS Component with SAPP Party, PBRS, PBS, PPBM, and BN-Sabah.
JEFFREY KITINGAN'S POLITICAL CAREER:
He is known as a controversial politician, once detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA Act) on suspicion of planning to separate Sabah from the Malaysian federation. But the real truth is that he only defended MA63 and planned to take Labuan from the federation to be returned to Sabah and more than that, Datuk Jeffrey force the Federation to give-back Petroleum Oil in Sabah / Labuan which was confiscated by the federation during the reign of Tun Mahathir Mohammad. He is very experienced in handling political parties and has participated in Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS), Parti Angkatan Keadilan Rakyat (AKAR Bersatu) and Pertubuhan Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Bersatu (UPKO). He was one of the Vice Presidents of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) until he resigned on October 28, 2009 due to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim who did not agree with Datuk Jeffrey Kitingan's agreement to expedite the claim of Indigenous Rights in Sabah. In the 2008 Malaysian General Election, he challenged his brother Joseph Pairin from BN-PBS in the Keningau Parliamentary constituency but lost. In 2011-2012, he joined the State Reform Party and has now become his Private Party, the Solidarity Party of Tanah Airku Rakyat SABAH (STAR) in 2016 - until now. He has been the Founder of the STAR Sabah Party. In GE-13 in 2012, he lost again to his brother in Keningau, but managed to win the Bingkor DUN. in GE-14 in 2018, he managed to beat his two challengers to win the Keningau Parliamentary seat with a slim victory. At the state level, he managed to beat his brother to win the Tambunan seat. His determination and intention to help the indigenous people in Sabah has been proven by the support that has given him continuous victory. In the Sabah 2020 PRN, He has won seats in Tambunan and his Party has won 6 seats out of the 8 seats contested by the Party.
Appointed Deputy Minister
- On 9 March 2020, he was appointed Deputy Minister of the Malaysian cabinet holding the Tourism, Culture and Arts portfolio by the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. On 25 February 2020, his leadership party merged as a party of confidence and supplies with the National Alliance to form a new government and overthrow the government at that time under the leadership of Pakatan Harapan. The swearing-in ceremony was held on March 10, 2020.
2020 state election (26 September 2020)
In the 2020 Sabah state election, he agreed lead his party, STAR to joined Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) to against Warisan Plus. As result, his party won 6 seats out of the 8 seats contested by the STAR Sabah Party in the state election, Jeffrey himself won the Tambunan seat. After winning the election, he appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister II, serving with Datuk Bung Mokhtar as Deputy Chief Minister I and Datuk Joachim Gunsalam as Deputy Chief Minister III.
On the day he appointed as Deputy Chief Minister II, he has resigned as Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture.[1]
"GABUNGAN RAKYAT SABAH" SIGNED "MoU" (09 JANUARY 2021):
Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) officially signed the "MoU" to continue cooperation, and rejected outside intervention on January 9, 2021. The date has become a historic day for the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and for all citizens in Sabah who want "Sabah Politics for Sabah Only ". Datuk Jeffrey Kitingan is one of the GRS leaders who agreed with this agreement to continue peace and continue political cooperation in the State of Sabah without interference from any other party, especially those from outside Sabah.

Personal life
From December 2007 to May 2008, for six months Datuk Jeffrey Kitingan was bedridden due to an accident and almost paralyzed.
On 3 January 2021, Jeffrey tested positive for COVID-19 and underwent treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.[7] He and his wife have been discharged after recovering from Covid-19 on 16 January.[8]
