Joe Brady (American football coach)

Joseph Brady (born September 23, 1989) is an American football coach who is the offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League (NFL).[1] Brady previously served as the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach for the LSU Tigers during the 2019 season, winning the Broyles Award for the best assistant coach in college football. He also previously served as an offensive assistant for the New Orleans Saints from 2017 to 2018.

Early life

Son of Joe and Jodi, brother of Jacey (former Miami Dolphins cheerleader), Brady born in Miami Lakes, Florida and grew up in Pembroke Pines, Florida where he was a four-year letterwinner as a wide receiver at Everglades High School.[2] Brady garnered honorable mention all-state (6-A) honors as a senior after recording 21 receptions for 419 yards and three touchdowns and earned Sun-Sentinel All-Broward accolades.[3]

Playing career

Brady spent four years as a wide receiver for the William & Mary Tribe from 2009–2012. As a junior, he appeared in all 11 games, recording one reception for 13 yards in the win at VMI. As a senior, Brady appeared in 10 games and earned a start against Richmond. He was also chosen to the CAA Academic All-Conference team for the second consecutive season.[2][4][5]

Coaching career

Early career

Brady got his start in coaching at his alma mater, William & Mary, where he coached linebackers from 2013 to 2014.[5] Brady spent two years as a graduate assistant at Penn State from 2015 to 2016.

New Orleans Saints

In 2017, Brady was hired by the New Orleans Saints as an offensive assistant under head coach Sean Payton.

LSU

In 2019, Brady joined head coach Ed Orgeron and the LSU Tigers as their passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach.[2][4] Recognized as the top assistant coach during the 2019 college football season, Brady was honored with the 24th annual Broyles Award.[6] Subsequently, he emerged as a leading candidate for numerous offensive coordinator vacancies in the NFL,[7][8] but eventually agreed to a three-year contract extension with LSU.[9]

Carolina Panthers

On January 16, 2020, Brady was hired by the Carolina Panthers as their offensive coordinator under head coach Matt Rhule.[1]
