The song used in the video, "Soph Aspin Send" by Blackpool-based grime artist Millie B, known online as "M to the B", was released in December 2016 as a "send" or diss track aimed at fellow Blackpool-based grime artist Sophie Aspin.[2][3] Bella Poarch's video, in which she lip synced to the song using TikTok's "Face Zoom" filter, quickly became the most-liked video on the platform,[4] inspiring a number of deepfake-based memes.[5][6]
  2. American singer Billie Eilish first joined TikTok in November 2020 with the username @coochiedestroyer5, soon changing it to @billieeilish.[9][10] Her first video posted to the platform, in which she puffs her cheeks to distort her nose as part of the "perfect nose" trend, quickly amassed hundreds of millions of views.[11][12]
  3. In late April and early May 2020, TikTok users began parodying actress Debby Ryan's performances and facial expressions in her early films and shows, most notably as Tara Adams in the 2012 Disney Channel film Radio Rebel.[18][19] In the video, Ryan dresses up as a number of characters from films and television shows she starred in, including Jessie, The Suite Life on Deck, and Insatiable. She ends the video dressed as Tara Adams in Radio Rebel, mocking the facial expression she makes in the film.[20][21]
  4. The "Ahi Challenge" was a dance trend created by TikTok user Rodrigo Contreras (@elrodcontreras) and set to the 2017 reggaeton song "Tra Tra" by Nfasis.[23][24] Michael Le's video involves him and his younger brother performing the dance on a mall escalator.
  5. A dance challenge for the song "WAP" by American rapper Cardi B was created by Guamanian choreographer Brian Esperon in late 2020, and was reposted by Cardi herself.[31] The dance was performed by American social media personality Addison Rae.[32]
  6. An unofficial remix of American singer Taylor Swift's 2008 song "Love Story" by producer Disco Lines became popular on TikTok as part of a dance trend, in which users pushed their cameras away from them using a dolly and thrust their hips, in mid-2020.[34] One video participating in the trend, posted by photographer Kelly Bove, featured her dog Zain dancing, and earned over 20 million likes in four months.[35]
  7. American singer-songwriter KaMillion, best known for her appearance on VH1 reality television series Love & Hip Hop: Miami, released the song "Twerk 4 Me" in 2018. It gained notoriety in late 2020 following a series of twerk videos posted to social media using the song.[38][39]
