701"Masterchef Canada Invitational"April 8, 2019 (2019-04-08)6011.12816
The Top 18 were invited individually by the judges to the Masterchef Canada kitchen in Toronto. They will battle in heats according to the judge that selected them. First up was Alvin’s group consisting of Alyssa, Cliff, Jamie, Josh, Kimberly, and Laurie, who needed to cook a signature dish using chicken. Cliff produced the best dish and received the first white apron. Alyssa and Josh also received white aprons. The second group was Michael’s, consisting of Chanelle, Colin, Jenny, Marie, Steven and Tony, who all cooked a dish using beef. Marie failed to earn a white apron, but all the others are announced to have done enough to progress to the next round with Tony praised for producing the best beef dish of the bunch. Lastly, Claudio’s group consisting of Andre, Cryssi, Jennifer, Lena, Mark and Rozin, were tasked with cooking shrimp. Rozin, Andre and Jennifer earned the white aprons for their outstanding dishes. Of the remaining three, the judges decided that Cryssi had also just done enough to progress, and she earned the last white apron.
712"Home Cooks, Your Roots Are Showing"April 8, 2019 (2019-04-08)6021.20010

Mystery Box 1: The first Mystery Box featured an array of root vegetables. The judges decided that the three best dishes belonged to Jennifer, Cryssi and Jenny. Jenny won the Mystery Box.

Elimination Test 1: As the winner of the Mystery Box, Jenny was safe from elimination and was allowed to save two cooks; she chose to save Cryssi and Jennifer. The remaining cooks were tasked with cooking a dish using different proteins, with two cooks being sent home at the end. Jenny had the advantage of selecting the order the cooks chose the proteins. Targeting Rozin, she left him to have the last pick; the cooks chose proteins in the following order: Tony with Alaskan king crab, Colin with salmon, Josh with clams, Cliff with duck legs, Andre with pork shoulder, Steven with ground beef, Chanelle with octopus, Alyssa with turkey, leaving Rozin with leg of lamb. Tony and Chanelle, who both took risks by choosing a protein they rarely (or in Chanelle's case, never) cooked with, produced the best dishes and were named captains for the first team challenge. The worst four dishes were produced by Colin, Steven, Alyssa, and Cliff. The judges were disappointed with Colin and Alyssa's dishes, but saved them for their perfectly cooked proteins. Thereby, both Cliff and Steven were sent home as a result.
723"Top Hats and Tails"April 15, 2019 (2019-04-15)6030.91725

Team Challenge 1: The Top 10 home cooks were tasked to cook Caribbean dishes for 121 guests in a wedding for their first team challenge. With the best dish from the last elimination challenge, Tony was given the choice to have first pick of the proteins or team members. He chose to pick team members, selecting Andre, Jenny, Alyssa and Cryssi, while Chanelle selected Jennifer, Rozin, Colin and Josh. For the challenge, Chanelle’s Blue Team cooked crab and shrimp for their appetizer and chicken for their entree, while Tony’s Red Team prepared a red snapper appetizer and a beef tenderloin entree. In the end, the Red Team beat the Blue Team by a mere margin of 3 votes.

Pressure Test 1: Before the pressure test began, the judges gave all members of the losing Blue Team an opportunity to decide as a team one cook to exempt from the pressure test. Because of his outstanding performance preparing the chicken entree, the team chose to save Josh. This left Chanelle, Rozin, Jennifer and Colin to bake a sweet and a savoury cheesecake in 80 minutes. Jennifer’s ‘Everything Bagel’ and ‘A Walk in the Forest’ cheesecakes were deemed to be the best, sending them first to safety. Colin’s savoury scallop ceviche cheesecake was disliked by the judges, but his strawberry cheesecake was praised, though underdone. Chanelle’s savoury goat cheese cheesecake was generally praised, but her matcha cheesecake had cracked and was raw in the center. Rozin was criticised for overambitiously overreaching in his concepts for his savoury Stilton and sweet tahini-themed cheesecakes as they were sloppy and messy in presentations and under-baked. The judges decide to advance Rozin and Chanelle, eliminating Colin.
734"Tastes Like Teen Spirit"April 22, 2019 (2019-04-22)6040.93127

Mystery Box 2: The Top 9 home cooks were greeted by their teenage photos underneath their Mystery boxes. As Season 5 winner Beccy Stables made her return to the MasterChef kitchen, the home cooks were tasked to elevate their favorite dish from their teenage years. The best three dishes belonged to Jennifer, Rozin and Josh. Josh was the winner of the Mystery Box.

Elimination Test 2: As the winner of Mystery Box, Josh was safe from elimination. The theme of this elimination challenge was spices. Nine boxes containing three different spices are shown to the home cooks, in which the home cooks must showcase all three spices in their dish. However, two of the nine boxes will grant the home cook immunity. The remaining home cooks were asked to pick a box in random to find out what were inside. Alyssa and Cryssi picked the "Safe" boxes and were safe from elimination. This left Jenny with celery seed, cayenne pepper and fennel seed; Andre with caraway seed, cumin and savory; Rozin with rosemary leaves, lavender and white pepper; Chanelle with Chinese ginger, sage and turmeric; Jennifer with cloves, cinnamon and thyme; and Tony with cardamom, nutmeg and coriander seed. The two best dishes of the belonged to Jennifer and Andre (who will be team captains for next week's field team challenge). The worst two dishes belonged to Jenny and Tony. Jenny was frazzled and confused in the challenge, but the judges were disappointed that Tony had not shown range by creating yet another Italian pasta dish, thereby Tony was sent home.
745"School Lunch!"April 29, 2019 (2019-04-29)6050.97825

Team Challenge 2: The Top 8 was tasked to prepare school lunches for 161 school kids for one of the biggest team challenge ever. With the best dishes from the last elimination challenge, Jennifer and Andre were appointed team captains for this challenge. Jennifer chose Josh, Alyssa and Chanelle for their Red Team, whilst Andre chose Jenny, Rozin and Cryssi for his Blue Team. Jennifer's Red Team won the challenge with 99 to 62 votes.

Pressure Test 2: All four members of the losing team (Andre, Rozin, Jenny and Cryssi) had to replicate a plate of Valencian Fideuà (with squid, shrimp, noodles, mussels, clams and saffron) in only 20 minutes in a fight for survival in the competition, making this the shortest replication pressure test in Masterchef Canada's 6 season history. Andre and Cryssi both exceptionally nailed their dishes and produced the 2 best replications, with Andre's declared as the cream of the crop (he was sent first to safety). Cryssi’s was near-perfect with only a minor flaw noted. However, Jenny and Rozin’s dishes both have multiple flaws. Despite his noodles flawlessly cooked to perfection, Rozin presented an incomplete dish that was missing multiple seafood elements and components, as he forgot what the dish looked like, and his raw squid tentacles were inedible. Jenny cut herself, and despite continuing with one hand, she messed up her first batch of noodles during the cook by pouring the chicken stock in too early, her dish was a unseasoned and had noodles with inconsistent cook that were also soggy. In the end, the judges decided that Rozin’s replication was the worst and eliminated him, thereby sending him home.
756"Risk and Reward"May 6, 2019 (2019-05-06)6060.88830>

Mystery Box 3: The home cooks learn whether taking a risk was worth the reward in this Mystery Box. There were two boxes: one clear box containing potato, squash, pork chop and maple syrup, and an opaque box containing unknown ingredients. Home cooks who chose the secret (opaque) box will have a full one hour to cook, but those who chose the safe (clear) box must wait for the clock to tick down to 45 minutes. Only the men (Andre and Josh) chose the safe box, whereas all the women chose to take a risk with the secret box. The secret box contained largely exotic ingredients including black cod, escarole, passion fruit and tamarind paste. In the end, the best dishes belonged to Chanelle, Josh and Cryssi. Cryssi won the Mystery Box.

Elimination Test 3: The theme of this elimination challenge was opulent and luxuriously extravagant East Asian ingredients selected by judge Alvin Leung. Cryssi was not exempted from cooking, but her advantage allowed her to assign each home cook with the seven different East Asian ingredients. She chose Wagyu beef for herself. Targeting Chanelle, Andre and Jennifer, she assigned uni to Andre; abalone to Chanelle; ebisu dai to Jennifer; black garlic to Josh; Matsutake mushroom to Jenny; and XO sauce to Alyssa. Jennifer produced the best dish of the night while Josh and Chanelle were also praised for their exceptional, knockout dishes. Cryssi got mediocre reviews while Andre was harshly lambasted by Chef Alvin for having very little sea urchin in his dish and not doing much to highlight and feature it as the star, which he was supposed to. The judges deemed Jenny and Alyssa's dishes to be the worst two, asking the two ladies to turn in their aprons, and the duo were eliminated as a result. However, the episode ended on a cliffhanger, as the judges announced that their time in the MasterChef kitchen was not quite over...
767"Knife Fight!"May 13, 2019 (2019-05-13)6071.01820

Jenny and Alyssa had to face Rozin and Tony as they were put through a series of three challenges involving knife skills in a redemption challenge.

Redemption Challenge Part 1: The four homecooks's skills in using chef's knife were tested by having to julienne cut red onions, sweet peppers, zucchinis, carrots, and mangos to make an Asian rice noodle salad with Thai chilli vinaigrette in just 14 minutes. Jenny and Tony execute a near perfect dish, while Rozin's noodles stick together but is presented nicely. Due to poor time management, Alyssa presents a salad that is messy and missing elements, resulting in her elimination.

Redemption Challenge Part 2: The remaining three homecooks had to filet a Dover sole and use two of the fillets to make Sole meunière in just 8 minutes. All three cooks have flaws in their fish - Tony's fillets are slightly underdone, Rozin's fillets are too light from his butter not being hot enough, and Jenny's fillets are uneven in size from leaving too much meat on the carcass, causing one to be overcooked. Jenny is eliminated in this round.

Redemption Challenge Part 3: Rozin and Tony battled head-to-head in frenching a rack of lamb and cooking it to a perfect medium rare in only 22 minutes. While both cooks are nearly even in taste, Rozin's lamb is a perfect medium rare while Tony's lamb is slightly overcooked and still has some sinew on the bone. Rozin emerged as the winner, earning himself a white apron and a spot back in Masterchef Canada Top 6.
778"Into the Fire"May 20, 2019 (2019-05-20)6080.96415

Team Challenge 3: The Top 6 cooked in the annual Restaurant Takeover in Michael Bonacini's Leña Restaurante. Josh and Cryssi were chosen as team captains by the judges as they were the two contestants that have never led a team challenge. Josh chose Jennifer and Chanelle for his Red Team, and Cryssi chose Rozin and Andre for her Blue Team. The appetizers chosen by Chef Michael were a broken avocado salad and dish with clams and chorizo, and the entrees were an Atlantic salmon dish and a roasted lamb sirloin dish. While both teams performed well in the appetizer round, they both struggled equally in the entree round due to lack of communication and thereby required assistance from Michael and Julie, his chef de cuisine. Returning to the MasterChef Canada kitchen the next morning, the judges declared both teams were the losers, as they felt that neither team performed well enough to be given the win to be safe - a first in MasterChef history.

Pressure Test 3: Both teams of three had to face the pressure test, but the judges gave Josh and Cryssi (both the losing team captains) the chance to save one of their two fellow teammates, but they were not allowed to save themselves as the judges feel they were both fully responsible for the lack of communication during the team challenge. Josh saved Jennifer and Cryssi saved Andre. The theme of this pressure test was breakfasts, and Josh, Cryssi, Chanelle and Rozin were tasked to replicate the judges' favorite breakfasts: Full English with English muffins for Michael; congee for Alvin; and bizcocho for Claudio in 65 minutes. Cryssi produced the best breakfast trio and was the first to be sent to safety, while Josh, Chanelle and Rozin were on the bottom three. Josh produced a well executed Full English, but his congee was too thin and bland and his bizcocho were dry. Chanelle's congee was near-perfect, but she had imperfect components in her Full English and her bizcocho were a total disaster. Rozin fared worse with multiple flaws in all three dishes as the blood sausage in his Full English exploded; his small bizcocho were overcooked and dry; and his congee had a bitter aftertaste due to an imbalanced use of spices. As a result, Rozin was eliminated and sent home once again.
789"Wheel of Fruit"May 27, 2019 (2019-05-27)6091.0699

Mystery Box 4: The Top 5 home cooks are faced with a giant Mystery Box where their loved ones are waiting inside: Jennifer's boyfriend; Cryssi's sister; Chanelle's husband; Josh's wife; and Andre's aunt. For this Mystery Box, the home cooks' loved ones will not only be cooking alongside them, but in fact they will be doing majority of the cooking in the hour. The home cooks were tasked to coach them from the side and only given 18 minutes to help them during the cook. The cooks and their families were tasked to create a fried chicken dish with biscuits, gravy and coleslaw. After tasting all the dishes, the judges decided that Andre and his aunt were the winners of the Mystery Box, earning him an advantage in the elimination challenge.

Elimination Test 4: The theme of this elimination challenge was tropical fruits. The Top 5 would spin a wheel to determine the tropical fruit they will be using, and also whether they will be doing a savoury or sweet dish. As his advantage, Andre did not need to spin the wheel and is allowed to choose any of the fruits and the kind of dish he would be making. He chose to make a savory dish using passion fruit. The remaining four cooks spun the wheel resulting Cryssi to cook a sweet dish with sugar apple; Josh to make a savoury dish with tamarind; Chanelle to create a sweet dish using soursop; and Jennifer to make a savoury dish with coconut. Andre produced the best dish, and Cryssi's dish was also raved. Jennifer's dish was rebuked for their overcooked lobster. Chanelle's dish was messy and the soursop overpowered by other flavours. Josh's dish was criticized to have played it too safe (having stayed well within his comfort zone) and lacked ambition. Josh and Chanelle were called out as the bottom two, and Chanelle was eliminated.
7910"Gifts from the Earth"May 27, 2019 (2019-05-27)6101.0946

Team Challenge 4: The final four remaining cooks arrived at the Canadian Canoe Museum and divided in pairs of 2 for a team challenge cook-off to honour Indigenous agriculture for a shot at immunity. Each team of 2 must create a three course tasting menu consisting of three dishes that honor the Three Sisters ingredients: corn for appetizer, beans for entree, and squash for dessert. With the best winning dish from the last elimination challenge, Andre was given the advantage to choose his teammate. Andre selected Jennifer, leaving Cryssi with Josh as a second team of two by default. Andre and Jennifer won the team challenge, automatically advancing the Top 3 semifinals.

Pressure Test 4: As the losing pair, Cryssi and Josh faced each other in a replication pressure test for the last remaining spot in the Top 3 semifinals. They were given a challenging task of replicating a tempered chocolate sphere dessert containing a pistachio genoise sponge cake and topped with bruléed figs, accompanied by a caramel sauce. Despite his initial nervousness baking such a difficult dessert, Josh performed smoothly and produced a near-perfect, well-executed replication, although his pistachio cake was slightly dry. Cryssi miscalculated the timing of filling her mould with her tempered chocolate, which quickly solidified, only covering three quarters of the interior. Cryssi then had to create another one using a balloon, resulting in a lumpy and dull chocolate egg-shaped sphere. Despite her spot-on flavours, Josh advanced to the Top 3 semifinals, and Cryssi was sent home.
8011"Fire and Ice"June 3, 2019 (2019-06-03)6111.3442

Mystery Box 5: The remaining 3 semifinalists (Andre, Jennifer and Josh) were excited when the 3 judges introduced guest judge Tessa Virtue (an Olympic ice dancer and gold medalist) to the judging panel as the special guest star. Tessa explained the theme of this last Mystery Box challenge of the season. The 3 semifinalists were tasked to create a stunningly elevated, dramatic dish with the theme of “Fire and Ice” using molecular gastronomy to elevate their plating to artistically inventive and innovative heights. Andre produced the best dish and won the Mystery Box.

Elimination Test 5: Andre does not directly advance to the finals and must cook his way through the elimination challenge with Jennifer and Josh. The theme of the last elimination challenge of the season featured Canada’s top cheeses. The cooks were tasked to create a three-course tasting menu using an assigned cheese. With his advantage, he was allowed the cheeses to the cooks. Andre selected grey owl ash-ripened goat cheese for himself, and gave the Avonlea clothbound cheddar cheese to Jennifer, and tiger blue cheese to Josh. Jennifer produced the best dishes, giving them the first spot in the finale. With more flaws in their dishes, the judges decide that Andre’s dishes showed more finesse than Josh's. Andre was advanced to the finale, eliminating Josh.
8112"Final Showdown"June 10, 2019 (2019-06-10)6111.4451
Jennifer and Andre face off in a three-hour, three-course battle for the title of MasterChef Canada. As with the previous seasons, they must work non-stop for three whole hours to prepare a three-course meal for the judges, spending one hour on one course, presenting the appetizer after the first hour, entrees after the second, and dessert at the end of the third hour. For the appetizers, Andre served a Caribbean lobster run down with coconut-callaloo puree and boiled dumplings, while Jennifer served a fancy version of ants on a log with port-poached figs, celery brunoise, and blue cheese mousse. For the entrees, Jennifer presented a braised lamb shank on hay-smoked oats with sour cherry glaze and a mint cotton candy "fleece" inspired by "Mary's Little Lamb", while Andre created a Caribbean-Korean fusion curried goat bo ssäm, with goat two ways, caramelized kimchi, mango salad, and gochujang sauce. For dessert, Andre served a deconstructed turon with Chinese five spice waffle, caramelized plantains, grapefruit soda snow, and ice cream, while Jennifer served an elevated version of treat cereal with chocolate soil, puffed rice, sugar-cured egg yolk, marshmallow meringues, and tea-smoked milk. With both finalists demonstrating a strong sense of flavour, creativity and innovation in their dishes, the judges considered the overall story presented across the three courses and the finalists’ culinary journey throughout the competition. As a result, the judges named Jennifer the winner of MasterChef Season 6.
