Spain and the Sultanate of Oman established diplomatic relations in 1972, and in 2004 the opening of the Spanish Embassy in Muscat took place. In 2006 Oman appointed its first ambassador to Spain. In 2008 the Commercial Office of our Embassy was opened.[4]

Economic relations

Bilateral economic relations between Oman and Spain are modest although they show a tendency to grow. It must be taken into account that, apart from the hydrocarbons sector, the Omani market is small, with its commercial influence area being mainly the Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia. In 2013, Oman ranked as the 58 country in the list of countries that import Spanish goods and 79 in the list of countries that export goods to Spain. As for bilateral investment relations, Oman is since 1993 the 34th investor country in Spain (in terms of foreign direct investment) and the 104th recipient country of Spanish direct investment abroad (in cumulative terms since 1993).[5]
