Sengundram

Sengundram ("செங்குன்றம்"), known in English as Red Hills, is a neighbourhood in the northwestern part of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The name was derived from the red hills (Semman Kuviyal) that was mostly present in this area in early stage. The celebration for god Angaala Parameshwari Amman in Padianallur Angaala Parameshwari Temple at the month of March and April also brings great fame to this town.

And also the special business there is paddy and rice selling and buying. It gives a wide range of employment. These businesses are help to Tamil Nadu to fulfill their requirement especially Chennai city. Iyyappan temple in Redhills is famous among Hindus and the CSI church opposite to Iyyappan temple is one of the larger church in the surrounding area. Redhills Lake is named as Puzhal lake and it is a major water reservoir for the city. Vishalayam special school, the only special school at redhills working hard for uplifting lives of special children and mentally challenged children. Two major Government schools are there one for boys and other for girls and also Government boys higher secondary school (vadagarai) is the most famous and older one.

Red Hills Lake

Puzhal aeri, or Puzhal lake, also known as the Red Hills Lake, is located in Ponneri taluk of Thiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu. It is one of the two rain-fed reservoirs from where water is drawn for supply to Chennai City, the other one being the Chembarambakkam Lake and Porur Lake. The full capacity of the lake is 3,300 million ft³ (93 million m³).

Transport facility

A Redhills bus stand has buses to various parts of Chennai. It is easy to get connected to CMBT, Broadway, Poonamalle, Tambaram and Vandaloor Zoo through bus from Redhills. Many mofussil buses also pass through Redhills.

In Phase II of metro Rail, Three lines covering a distance of 63 kilometres have been proposed in the second phase of the network. In that Line 4 is envisioned to be a 22-kilometre route with 8 stations from Moolakadai to Thirumangalam Junction. Stations are planned at: Moolakadai, Vinayagapuram/Teachers Colony, Surapet, Red Hills, Ambattur OT, Maduravoyil Junction, MMM Hospital and Thirumangalam Junction
