History

South Korea B was founded in 1961 to participate in Pestabola Merdeka, an Asian football competition annually held by Malaysia.[3] B team played in several Asian competitions instead of A team when they had to have other schedules. They also entered the 1964 AFC Asian Cup while A team concentrated on the 1964 Summer Olympics qualification.[4] In the 1980s, South Korea B was named the "88 Olympic football team", and was used to prepare the 1988 Summer Olympics hosted in Seoul, South Korea.[5]

In May 1988, Korea Football Association (KFA) made another B team for the 1988 AFC Asian Cup qualification to replace existing B team, which will play in the 1988 Korea Cup.[6] KFA also sent B team which consisted of semi-professionals and universities' players to qualify for the 1992 AFC Asian Cup,[7] but they shocked South Korean fans by being eliminated in the qualification after they lost to Thailand.

South Korea B was disappeared naturally after South Korea under-23 team was founded.
